There is a widely known fact that one of the most painful and potentially damaging experiences a child or young person can go through is Sexual Abuse. What has only recently come to light (perhaps since the advent of social media and household names disclosing their experiences) is the frequency of such happenings and how most families today either know someone who has suffered in this away or they themselves or as a family have suffered.
The other side of the coin is that we are learning more and more how to help victims, in a less intrusive and more effective manner. With my clients, I often find Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) to be the most effective. Using what is known as ‘gentle EFT’, we can come to terms and accept what happened, but at the same time ‘flush out’ the intensity of the memories – the anger, the hurt, the shame, and the degradation, to name but a few.
